Why Las Vegas?

It’s common for cities to boast about their tech chops. Vegas — which has been attracting creative, talented residents since early settlers came to Nevada panning for gold and settling the frontier — counts a thriving tech scene amongst the reasons why Vegas is a flourishing hub of activity in the Southwest region and a welcoming place for families to live.

Thinking about a software career in Las Vegas? You might be wondering: what does Vegas have to offer you and your family?

What makes our location stand out is this: from award-winning schools to internationally renowned restaurants, a growing tech scene to an established arts community — the great cost of living in Vegas, the easy commute times, the quick access to great outdoor recreation, the plentiful housing options, and the excellent family-friendly activities mean that residents benefit from an established, growing community with a small-town feel.

If you’re used to hearing about Vegas only as a good place to come for a good time, you might be surprised to find that Vegas is a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

We think you’ll be pleased by what Vegas has to offer.

Vegas at a Glance

When most people hear Vegas, they think nightlife — hotels, casinos, glamour. But the Las Vegas Strip no more defines the town than Times Square defines New York. What does define Vegas is the old pioneering spirit that has always drawn creative people out west in search of new opportunities.

That entrepreneurial spirit is what makes Vegas a prime location for talented people who want to make an impact. Instead of panning for gold, creative thinkers in Vegas take the initiative to join the growing startups as well as the established tech companies that together make Vegas such an exciting, community-focused place to live and work.

Cost of Living

Far more affordable than many other burgeoning tech centers, Vegas also offers impressively short commutes, great inexpensive schools, and more than 310 sunny days per year for residents to enjoy.

Taxes

With no state income tax, Nevada has one of the lowest tax burdens in the country, making it a smart place to invest in your own and your family’s future.

Housing

No matter where you live in Clark County, housing options are plentiful and commute times are short. Whether you prefer an urban condo or a suburban single-family home, Las Vegas and Henderson provide affordable choices.

Education

The Clark County School District is the fifth largest in the nation, with more than 300 schools, including multiple National Blue Ribbon Schools Award Winners in both Las Vegas and Henderson.

Students benefit from the school board's rigorous ranking system. There are more than 50 five-star ranked schools in the county, with 36 magnet schools that offer unique opportunities for students in subjects ranging from international studies and finance to the performing arts.

STEM Study

Families seeking academically rigorous programs for their children can take advantage of multiple STEM/STEAM academies at the elementary, middle, and high school level that focus on educating students in Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics.

International Baccalaureate® Programs

A growing number of schools offer the rigorous International Baccalaureate® (IB) program at the primary, middle, and high school level. Roy W. Martin Middle School, Palo Verde High School, and Henderson’s own Green Valley High School (which was ranked by Newsweek as “one of America's top public high schools”), are some of the options available to students in Las Vegas who seek an excellent affordable education.

Colleges and Universities

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), the College of Southern Nevada, and Nevada State College provide affordable, high-quality undergraduate and graduate education, including UNLV’s top-ten ranked online graduate nursing degree program, the UNLV law school’s top-three ranked program in legal writing, and the new UNLV medical school opening in 2017.

Professional Growth

Home to numerous trade shows and conferences, Vegas also benefits from the thriving downtown tech scene with ample software careers, including the tech-friendly Downtown Project, where more than 300 startups are developing.

Schools

Many of the top schools in the state are near our office. Neighborhoods like Seven Hills offer great schools in welcoming communities that also include beautifully landscaped homes, parks designed for both families to enjoy, and plentiful shopping choices, all within easy distance of the main freeways. Look at a few of the schools located near our office:

Commute Times

Average commute times are low — where Structure Studios is located in Henderson, the average commute is only 22 minutes, lower than the national average, and far lower than the commute times faced by workers in many startup hubs. In fact, for most of us in the office, commute times are less than 10 minutes — many of us live close enough to ride our bikes (or bike for fun) or walk to the office.

The Great Outdoors

Whether you prefer hiking, skiing, surfing, skydiving, golfing, or all of the above, Vegas’s central location provides easy access to a wide variety of outdoor activities — from the great walking and biking trails right in Henderson to the nearby state parks that offer plentiful hiking, rock climbing, and horseback riding choices. Those interested in historic regional landmarks can follow the Old Pioneer Trail, visit local state parks, and learn about the history of the many archaeological sites nearby.
